Ask Your Home Health Aide To Attend These Appointments With You

Blog

When you're getting a helping hand from a home health aide as you manage your ability to live independently, you can talk to this health professional about more than just visiting your home. In many cases, it can be advantageous to have your health aide accompany you outside of your home to attend various medical appointments. If you don't drive, your aide could actually pick you up and take you to your appointments. This is especially a good idea if you aren't able to have a family member attend any of the appointments, but even if family is present, you won't regret having your home health aide take part. Here are some appointments for which his or her attendance can be an asset.

Doctor

Whether you're seeing your family doctor or a medical specialist, your home health aide's attendance during at least part of your appointment will be helpful. If you find that your memory isn't what it used to be, it may be a struggle to remember the instructions that you receive from the doctor. The attendance of your health professional means that the onus won't be fully on you to remember what was said. Similarly, if your doctor is giving you instructions about taking medication, this information may seem overwhelming if there are a number of prescriptions being discussed — but this won't be a concern with your health aide joining you.

Physical Therapist

If you're working to recuperate from an injury or you just want to keep as physically fit as possible, you may make regular visits to a physical therapist. In addition to being assisted with your regimen of exercises, the therapist will also give you instructions about some exercises to perform at home. Some of these exercises can benefit from a partner, so your health aide's attendance will provide him or her with the necessary background to be the perfect exercise partner for you.

Nutritionist

Eating healthy is important as you age, and you may rely on appointments with a nutritionist to talk about your diet and ensure that you're on track with your goals. Having your home health aide attend these sessions with you not only allows him or her to stay current with this area of your health, but also understand your various dietary needs. Health aides will often cook for their patients, so the aide's attendance will ensure that he or she knows how to prepare the healthiest diet for you.

Taking Care Of Terminally Ill Loved Ones

When my grandparents were both diagnosed with cancer due to radon in their home, I knew that we were going to be spending a lot of time helping them out. We started focusing on different ways to help them out, but it was really challenging to find the time to care for them. We realized that we needed help, so we started looking for home health care businesses who could come out to help. We found an excellent company who could help, and they were amazing to work with. They made our grandparents feel comfortable and happy each day, and it meant the world to us. Check out this blog for great information on home health care.
